Then you’ve come to the right place! While I may not have read every book about climate change because there’s A LOT but I’ve read a solid amount and feel pretty clued up on the subject so thought I’d shared my knowledge!
Over the last year I have been making an effort to learn more about the very serious issue that is climate change and while there are tonnes of websites and info about the subject I find it easier to digest information from books. So here are my recommendations if any of you are interested in learning more about the subject and how to help prevent it!
You’ve probably seen this all over the book shops, and I don’t really have a lot to say about it but if you are wanting the motivation to start making a change in your life then this is the book to read. It is a compilation of Greta Thunberg’s speeches over the last year or so. If you don’t know a lot about the whole situation then this is a great one to read because she does lay out a lot of the facts and figures from scientists and those who know what they’re talking about.
It is very inspirational to read and does actually make you want to get up off you arse and do something good for the planet!
This was the first book that I read on the subject of plastic and climate change and I think that it was a great introductory book to the topic, so if you are a newbie then this is definitely the first book that you should pick up! It lays out the facts and figures and is straight to the point in telling you the harsh reality of the situation along with the simple solutions that you can do yourself.
I did a more in depth book review if you would like to read that HERE
If you are already pretty clued up on the situation or have read the previous book, Turning The Tide On Plastic, then this is the book for you. Yes it is similar in that it explains the situation and the solutions but it goes into a lot more detail! Most books and articles really only touch the surface compared to this one. It basically goes through every industry, like food and transport etc, and explains how climate change is affecting these and the current solutions in place and how most of our solutions aren’t actually gonna help.
This book is very very detailed so is best read in small chunks but is definitely worth a read so that you can make even more changes into your life. There are things that I thought were good, such as biofuels, which are actually really bad because they could lead to malnutrition in some places because resources for food will have to be scrapped to make way to plant things to use as biofuels.
If you’re serious about this whole saving the world shenanigan then you have to read this book.
I doubt there is a single person out there who does not know about the Extinction Rebellion group, they are basically a worldwide group that are protesting against climate change and everyone and anyone can be a part of the group. They organise protests, marches, everything to do with fighting climate change and this is their handbook. It talks about what you need to do in order to help save the planet and how you can do it and how you can get involved in their activities.

Moving on from the book that lay out the facts about climate change, this one lays out the solutions. This is a simple beginners guide to reducing your plastic consumption. It does not go into a lot of detail so I would say is best read if you are new to changing you life around or are maybe a family trying to make a difference. In my opinion the book below, How To Give Up Plastic, was a better one only because I have already implemented a lot of change in my life already.
I am not saying this is not worth a read though because it definitely is! It just brushes the surface on how you can cut out plastic.
This is very similar to the last book but goes into A LOT more detail. I love the way this book is structured because it breaks it down into rooms in the house and how you can minimise and get rid of plastic around the house. For me some parts weren’t relevant as I live at home so don’t have a say in a lot of things that are bought, however when I move in September I can implement a lot of the things in this book.
If you are like me, a nearly uni student, then this is a great read and can help advise you on creating a plastic free home.

I hope that this have given you some inspiration to get out and educate yourself because the climate change issue is just getting bigger and bigger and sort of feels like it’s never gonna go away and we need to act now! If you have read any of these books then I would love to know what you thought.
If you have any recommendations for books on this subject then let me know, I’m always looking for new books to read!
