How to plan for a productive month in isolation!

As they all wonderfully sang in High School Musical, “we’re all in this together!” That line has never been been more true.

I read that about half the planets population is currently on lockdown. Yay! Who’s having fun?

Honestly it’s not that bad for me because I have so much that I can do (which are basically things I wanted to do months ago but haven’t) and I have created a routine to help me get the most out of my day. With it being the start of a new month, this means a fresh start. It’s time to get your act together, because I think for most of us we will be in isolation for the whole of the month.

I would highly recommend creating a morning routine as if you were still at school or work to avoid staying in bed all day! That’s not a very productive way to spend the upcoming weeks.

I have been bullet journaling for a while now, and I did a beginners guide HERE if you wanna read that and familiarise yourself with the concept. But I never put time into the aesthetics and decorations unlike everyone on Pinterest and YouTube. I am usually a busy person, I really don’t have the time for that. Until now. When all I have is time right now, I decided to put a little bit of extra effort into making these pages look nice and creating layouts to help maximise my productivity during this time.

You have been given all this free time and I really think it should be used wisely. As much as Netflix, Youtube, Animal Crossing etc are all amazing, this is the perfect opportunity to try some new things! If you want me to do a post about the various things you could do during isolation then just leave a comment saying so!

As you can see I have gone for a plant theme this month. More specifically they are supposed to be spider plants which are one of favourites plants. Yes I’m only saying that because I have 3 of them and they’re easy to look after. It’s a simple theme but if this continues on into may then expect a very detailed theme.

I have drawn a basic calendar page every month because otherwise I really would not know what day of the week it is. Now this seems a little bit pointless this month because I can’t write in my work rota, cause I’m not working, and I can’t write in any other plans because I really don’t have any….(sad face) So instead I’m using it to schedule blog posts and days I want to run, because by planning these things in advance it means I am more likely to do them.

You could use it in a similar way to schedule days to practise a hobby, exercise or even to figure out when you wanna go food shopping or when you’re gonna have a cleaning day. The options are endless! Put in things that you can look forward too.

I also include, every month, a mood tracker which I find helps with my mental heath and gives me a chance at the end of the day to quickly reflect on how I felt. Now I doubt that I will be putting any of them down as fantastic, but hopefully by the end of the month it will mostly be filled with good!

Next up is my brain dump page. It’s a place to put down random thoughts, ideas, good music finds, things I need to do at some point, anything and everything basically. I find it so useful, especially if you’ve got something to do later on in the month that you don’t want to forget.

I am also going to be using it to keep track of films that I have seen this month. I would like to watch no more than 1 a day, and I’m gonna give it a rating as well. I am in serious need of a movie education because there’s so many films I haven’t seen but should have, for example I still haven’t seen Avengers End Game!!!! So I am using this time wisely to increase my film knowledge, which I think is very productive! If you have any great film suggestions, then I would love to hear them.

So we’re now onto the weekly layout.

I have kept this month very simple, I have tried so many extra pages and layouts before thinking I would use them and after like 3 days I have given up, so I’m just having the essentials this month. I would normally include some budget tracker but there really is no point this month.

This is a very important page because it includes food. In order to make sure that I keep eating healthy and properly, I will be doing a meal plan from now on. I have been making huge portions of food and then eating it for a 5 days basically, and I would definitely suggest this to anyone who is self isolating alone. Then next to it I have put a shopping list because everyone needs to be making very infrequent trips to the shops so I would rather go and buy lots rather than going every couple of days.

I don’t understand people who don’t go food shopping without a list because otherwise I would go and get so many things and none of them would be the things that I actually need…

Lastly is my workout plan! I have been doing Blogilates workouts on YouTube every morning and have taken up running again in the hope that I can stay reasonable healthy. By writing down what you are planning on doing/ what video you will be watching means you are much more likely to do it. Hopefully this will help me to form better habits with exercise and after this is over, I am hoping to keep all this up not for image purposes but to feel better and stronger!

I have seen so many people suggesting this and I totally agree with them, and that is to make daily to-do lists. Now these are very powerful things and it’s very satisfying to tick things off as you go along (I’m easily pleased). You don’t have to make a list of like 100 things a day, just a couple of things is fine. If you’ve got school/uni work to do then you can break each task down and put them on you list so you make sure you do a little bit everyday.

The message that I have been trying to get across with this post, is that if you make a plan and write it down then you’re so much more likely to do it! You don’t have to plan ahead for the whole month because it can be quite overwhelming, instead you could just make a daily to-do list. As much as watching TV all day is great, it gets boring after a while and also we’re never (hopefully) gonna get this sort of free time again so I think it’s great to make the most of it while it lasts.

Do all of those little tasks around the house that you have been meaning to do for ages!

As the lockdown continues I will most likely be sharing little projects that I will be starting soon, and releasing as much blog content as I can to keep y’all entertained and to keep me busy!

  1. This is great! I bought a calendar to keep track of my to-dos and to log my fitness and eating habits, but I love the idea of creating your own layout and adding little illustrations and doodles – so fun and productive!
